How To

Split Long Lines for Single-Line Display

Create one-line-at-a-time lyric display by automatically splitting long lines

Create lyric versions that ensure only one line displays at a time on screen without wrapping to multiple lines.

When to Use Split Lyrics

Split lyrics are perfect for:

  • Single-line display to prevent lyrics from wrapping to multiple lines on screen
  • Vertical videos (9:16) for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts
  • Any video format where long lyrics would wrap
  • Professional-looking karaoke with consistent one-line-at-a-time display

How It Works

The split feature analyzes your lyrics and divides long lines into shorter segments that fit within your chosen video format. Each split line maintains perfect timing synchronization based on the original word-level timing.

Creating a Split Lyrics Version

  1. Open your project in the Studio
  2. Go to the Lyrics tab in the sidebar
  3. Review the explanation box about split versions
  4. Click Split Long Lines
  5. Configure your settings:
    • Name: Give your split version a descriptive name (e.g., "Split for Mobile")
    • Split Threshold: Adjust how aggressively to split (60-100%)
  6. Click Create Split

Note: The split calculation automatically uses your current video format from the project settings.

Split Threshold Explained

The split threshold determines when a line should be divided:

  • 90% (Recommended): Splits only lines that exceed 90% of the video width
  • 100%: Most conservative - splits only lines that are too wide to fit
  • 60%: Most aggressive - creates shorter lines for a cleaner mobile experience

Managing Multiple Lyrics Versions

Once you create split versions, you can:

Switch Between Versions

  • Click Select on any version to make it active
  • The Studio will immediately update to use the new alignment

Edit Sync

  • Click Edit Sync to fine-tune timing in the Manual Sync tool
  • Each version maintains its own independent timing

Delete Versions

  • Click the trash icon to remove versions you no longer need
  • Note: You cannot delete the currently selected version

Working with Translations

After creating a split version:

  1. The split version creates more lines than the original
  2. Add translations for each split line individually
  3. Translations will map 1:1 with the split lines
  4. This ensures proper timing for multilingual karaoke

Best Practices

9:16 Vertical (TikTok/Reels)

  • Split Threshold: 85-90%
  • Perfect for mobile viewing

16:9 Horizontal (YouTube)

  • Split Threshold: 95-100%
  • Use sparingly, most lines fit well

1:1 Square (Instagram Posts)

  • Split Threshold: 90%
  • Balanced for square format

When NOT to Split

Don't create split versions if:

  • Your lyrics already fit on single lines
  • You're creating desktop/TV karaoke (16:9 landscape)
  • You want multiple lines visible at once (like traditional karaoke)

Example

Original line:

When the evening shadows fall upon the town and the moonlight shines

After splitting (90% threshold, 9:16 vertical):

When the evening shadows fall
upon the town and the moonlight shines

Each split line displays separately, maintaining the one-line-at-a-time karaoke experience.
