Youka Online vs Desktop - Which Should You Use?

Looking for the whole Youka lineup, including Youka Live? See all Youka products.

Most creators should start with Youka Online. It is the fastest way to upload a song, create karaoke from a public video URL, sync lyrics, edit the result, and keep projects in your Youka library.

You only need the Youka Extension or Youka Desktop when your workflow specifically benefits from it.

Quick Answer

  • Use Youka Online if you want the simplest path: create karaoke in the browser, edit in the studio, and keep your library available across devices.
  • Use the Youka Extension when the web app needs help with video URLs or supported local export workflows.
  • Youka Desktop is our older app. It still works and stays downloadable, but it is no longer developed — new features ship to Youka Online. Use it only if you specifically need the native Windows or Mac app.

Start With Youka Online

Youka Online is the default choice for most karaoke creators because there is no installer and no platform decision before you see the product.

With Youka Online, you can:

  • upload audio or video files;
  • create karaoke from a public video URL using the Youka Extension when needed;
  • choose AI processing options;
  • edit lyrics, timing, layout, and backgrounds in the studio;
  • save projects to your Youka library;
  • stream finished karaoke from another device and use your phone as a remote.

If you are making a karaoke video for a party, class, practice session, YouTube draft, or TV playback, start online first.

When The Extension Helps

The Youka Extension is for browser workflows that need extra local capability. It can help Youka Online work with supported video URL flows and free local export workflows on supported systems.

That does not mean you need to download it before trying Youka. Start online, and install the extension only when the web app asks for it or when you know your workflow needs it.

When Desktop Makes Sense

Youka Desktop is our older app — it still works and stays downloadable, but it is no longer developed, and new features ship to Youka Online instead. With that in mind, Desktop can still make sense when you want a native app on Windows or Mac, prefer desktop file handling, or need a desktop-first workflow after your AI processing is done.

Desktop is a reasonable pick for creators who already know they want to work from one computer and do not need ongoing feature updates. For most new users, it adds an installation step before they understand whether Youka fits their karaoke workflow — Youka Online is the better starting point.

What To Do Next

If you are not sure, start with Youka Online. The web app will tell you when the extension is useful.

If you already know you want a native app, go to Download Youka Desktop — just keep in mind it is the legacy app and no longer developed, so new features arrive in Youka Online first. If you mainly need browser URL workflows, install the Youka Extension when prompted.
